On Friday, May 22, 2026, K9 Deputy Jon Samuelson was shot three times inside the emergency department at Franciscan Health Michigan City after acting as a Good Samaritan. Deputy Samuelson had pulled over to transport a man he believed was a stranded motorist to the hospital. Once there, he learned the man was a suspect in an earlier crime; when the deputy confronted him, a physical altercation ensued, and the suspect opened fire.
Following a successful eight-hour surgery at Memorial Hospital in South Bend, Deputy Samuelson remains in critical but stable condition.
Jon and his wife, Quinn are long time friends of Eternal K9 and as many of you know, Quinn has recently taken a position with us as the General Manager and Nutrition Specialist at our Granger location. They are both very near and dear to our hearts.
